News Release
King County seeks volunteers to plant
alongside Snoqualmie River

Don't miss this fun opportunity to join other volunteers planting native trees and shrubs along the Snoqualmie River. These sites are next to prime spawning grounds for chum, pink and chinook salmon. Work among the beautiful fall colors and help improve the riverside habitat for fish and wildlife by planting native trees and shrubs, and maintaining existing plantings.

  • Where: Chinook Bend near Carnation
  • When: October 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • What to Bring: Bring a shovel and gloves if you have them. Tools will be provided for those without. Light refreshments will be provided. You may want to bring a backpack with lunch and a water bottle because you may be up to .5 mile away from your vehicle.
  • What to Wear: Wear old "work clothes" and rubber boots or heavy shoes (but not sneakers!). Dress for the weather; we will plant rain or shine!
  • Volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • How to get there: From SR 520 eastbound: Take the Fall City/SR 202 (Redmond-Fall City Road) to NE Ames Lake Road and turn left. Ames Lake Road will become Ames Lake-Carnation Road which will become NE Carnation Farm Road. After 5.6 miles, you will see the Nestle' Regional Training Center on your right. Continue 1.5 miles before turning left just before the bridge at the volunteer event signs. Follow the signs to the parking area.
  • From SR 203: Take NE Carnation Farm Road (just north of downtown Carnation), go .9 miles until you reach the volunteer event signs, just after crossing the bridge over the Snoqualmie River. Follow the signs to the parking area.

This event is sponsored by King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks and King Conservation District. For more information, contact Greg Rabourn at
(206) 296-1923, TTY 711 or e-mail greg.rabourn@kingcounty.gov. Reasonable accommodations available upon advance request.
