GOV. RITTER NAMES MEMBERS TO TOURISM BOARD

Gov. Bill Ritter has named three new members to the Colorado Tourism Office Board of Directors and re-appointed three others.

The three new members:

Richard W. Scharf of Littleton is president and CEO of the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau. He will serve as the representative of the destination marketing industry. Scharf received the Governor¿s Tourism Award in 2002 for his work and is affiliated with the Colorado Tourism Office and Destination Colorado. The appointment is for a term expiring June 1, 2010.

Thomas J. Kleinschnitz of Grand Junction has vast experience in the field of tourism. He has worked for Adventure Bound Inc., River Expeditions since 1975 and currently owns and manages the business. In addition, Kleinschnitz is president of the Colorado West Tourism Council and chairman of the Colorado River Outfitters Association. The appointment is for a term expiring June 1, 2010.

Joe Hodas of Denver is director of corporate communications and investor relations for Frontier Airlines. Hodas also serves on several non-profit boards including Volunteers of America and the Emily Griffith Foundation. He will serve as the representative of the tourism-related transportation industries. The appointment is for a term expiring June 1, 2011.

The three re-appointees are Robert E. Perlman of Littleton, president and CEO of Colorado Ski Country USA (for a term expiring June 1, 2010); John J. Schafer of Parker, general manager of the new Hyatt Regency Convention Center Hotel in Denver (for a term expiring June 1, 2011); and Peter M. Meersman of Aurora, president and CEO of the Colorado Restaurant Association (for a term expiring June 1, 2011).

The 13-member tourism board develops and maintains policies regarding expenditures from the Colorado Travel and Tourism Fund to promote tourism and travel that benefits the state.

The appointments require Senate confirmation.
