RITTER NAMES NEW MEMBERS TO STATE BOARD OF HEALTH

Gov. Bill Ritter has named three new members to the State Board of Health, including representatives from La Plata, Moffat and Pueblo counties. The nominees to the board are:

  • Dr. Larry W. Kipe of Craig, to serve as a statewide at-large representative on the board.
Since 1989, Dr. Kipe has practiced family medicine with the Moffat Family Clinic in Craig, and he is currently president of the Colorado Academy of Family Physicians. He previously practiced medicine in the Air Force, including at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo., and in Ankara, Turkey.

Gov. Ritter has named Dr. Kipe to a four-year term expiring March 1, 2011.
  • Dr. Christine Nevin-Woods of Pueblo, to serve as a statewide at-large representative on the board.
Since 1991, Dr. Nevin-Woods has been the executive director of the Pueblo City-County Health Department and has served in a variety of public health positions during her career, including as state epidemiologist for the Hawaii Department of Health.

Gov. Ritter has named Dr. Nevin-Woods to a four-year term expiring March 1, 2011.
  • Joelle Riddle of Durango, to serve as the 3rd Congressional District and county commissioner representative to the board.
Riddle is a first-term La Plata County commissioner and grew up in Durango. She has served as a health educator in the community, is a current board member of the San Juan Basin Health Department and a member of a citizen interim taskforce to address health care issues in the county.

Commissioner Riddle fills a vacancy on the board and her term will expire on March 1, 2009.

The nominations require Senate approval.

Gov. Ritter also has reappointed board members Jeanne McGinnis of the 7th Congressional District and Laura Davis of the 2nd Congressional District.

The nine-member state Board of Health advises the executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment on all matters relating to public health and determines policies for the department to follow in administering and enforcing the public health laws of the state.
