U.S.-Baltic Health Science Collaboration Workshops
October 23-31, 2006
The United States Department of State is organizing a series of U.S.-Baltic Health Science Collaboration Workshops in tandem with the National Institutes of Health (NIH)—including the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)—and from the U.S. Civilian Research Development Foundation (CRDF). NIH is a U.S. government institution and CRDF is an American non-profit organization. Both are sources of funding for national and international scientists.
Overall, these workshops will focus on building a successful and sustainable research portfolio. The scientific areas of interest include public health, epidemiology, infectious diseases, genomics and related topics. The presentations will include an overview of NIH and CRDF research missions and the infrastructure needed for research. The training will focus on:
- Identifying sources of research support
- Establishing collaborations
- Preparing competitive applications
- Overview of how applications are reviewed
- Research management including funding and intellectual property issues
There will also be an area in each meeting site devoted to scientific posters. All invitees are welcome to present a poster describing their research if they wish, but must indicate this when registering.
The workshops will be most beneficial to research scientists and graduate students interested in a career in research and other university staff that manage research activities. Please see the agenda (below) for further details.
The workshops are given as a series and will provide these presentations throughout the Baltic Region as follows:
- The Technology Park, University of Tartu, Tartu, Estonia on October 23-24
- Riga Stradins University, Riga, Latvia on October 26-27
- The American Center, Vilnius, Lithuania on October 30-31
See the General Information link below for more details on the meeting sites.
Please pass this information on to your colleagues, collaborators, students and institutional officials who may have an interest.
