Medicaid Reports Fraud Prevention

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has supported the states by initiating many projects, developing numerous products, and conducting workshops and seminars – all designed to provide technical assistance and tools to the states in order to perform their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

Along with a description of each product, they have been categorized to provide guidance and reports of reviews, workshops and seminars. 

Reports

National Program Integrity (PI) Reviews - A national team from CMS’ Medicaid Alliance for Program Safeguards reviewed the program integrity policies and procedures of State Medicaid Agencies. A compendium of the information gathered and shared during the individual reviews is available for the following fiscal years: Fiscal Years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. Executive Seminars Conducted by Dr. Malcolm Sparrow - A series of four Executive Seminars were conducted in 1999 to share innovations and identify challenges in Medicaid program integrity.

  • Controlling Fraud and Abuse in Medicaid: Innovations and Obstacles - the executive summary report.
  • Commitment Conference Summary Report - The final conference, which served as a forum for State-Federal information exchange. (See the Seminars Downloads link listed below).

Combatting Health Care Fraud and Abuse: Technologies and Approaches for the 21st Century -  An overview of a 2000 conference on electronic fraud and abuse detection technologies jointly sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the U.S. Department of Justice explored where technology advances are driving fraud detection in the 21st Century. (See the Technology Downloads link listed below).
