Please read the following note from Linda and send any comments/changes to her ASAP. Laurentian's Web Page can be found at www.lsa.umich.edu/cglas/laurent/index.html "The ship schedule has been posted to the UNOLS office for discussion at the ship scheduling meeting on September 15th. It is in the standard UNOLS format. Since our home port is Grand Haven, the schedule accomodates departure from our home port and return to our home port. Under standard UNOLS recharging rates, charge days are days away from our home port. I do understand that the process work loading, etc. will be done at Muskegon. The ship will depart from Grand Haven, go to Muskegon to load, and proceed to the work sites. Similarly the sediment work departs from Grand Haven, but loading and unloading will occur in Milwaukee. These are considered intermediate ports and I have added transit time into the schedule. Changes in the schedule were made to accommodate the KITES project with the ice problems, and the sediment group is now scheduled on a much more regular 2 month basis. This schedule is still tentative and can still change. Right now, the most important thing about the schedule is nailing the number of days for funding. We can discuss other details later, and cruise details will come in specific cruise plans. For more detailed information on cruise plans, shared use equipment, recharges, etc., please consult our home page. If you are planning to use radioisotopes, you have to be certified through our radiation safety office. Gary Fahnenstiel is certified to use radioisotopes aboard the Laurentian and can provide more information if you need it. Please remember the schedule is still tentative and might be modified. i am aware of where equipment loading and boarding will occur. If you have specific questions about ship operations, check our web page. If you're still unable to find the answer, email me. We are being inspected for two days next week through the NSF ship inspection program, and I will be out of the office from Sept 10-12 for the inspection, and in Washington for UNOLS meetings from September 13-18. I will be back in my office on the 22nd." -LG POC: Dr. Linda M.
