The Panther Fire on the Lower Trinity Ranger District grew from 75 acres to 140 acres as of 7:30 Saturday morning according to District Ranger Ann Garland. "The winds came up, dramatically increasing the acreage, and the fire is now burning in a south-westerly direction towards the South Fork of the Trinity River. Fire fighting is difficult since the west side is on a 90% slope. It is burning in heavy timber and brush with areas of dead and down trees," said Garland.

Resources include four (4) 20-person crews, four (4) engines, four (4) dozers, four (4) water tenders and a helicopter. Sunday’s weather is predicted to be in the mid-80’s, about 10 degrees cooler than the current weather.

Management of the Orleans Complex has been taken over by the Rocky Mountain Fire Management Team, led by Pete Blume. The Fire Information Officers, Steve Segin and Karl Brauneis, can be reached at (530) 627-3145. Future updates will be posted on http://www.inciweb.org.
