MONITORING FOR TOLERANCE TO BT PROTEINS IN BOLLWORM/TOBACCO BUDWORM IN THE U.S. COTTON BELT
Location: Southern Insect Management Research Unit
Project Number: 6402-22000-047-31
Project Type:
Trust
Start Date: Aug 04, 2004
End Date: Dec 31, 2008
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research is to evaluate the development of resistance to Bt insecticides in cotton boll worm and tobacco budworm in areas where the adoption of Bt-cotton is over 50%.
Approach:
Pheromone and light traps will be used to collect adult moths, and insect scouts will collect eggs and larvae of the cotton boll worm and tobacco budworm from Bt and conventional cotton areas where over 50% of the cotton being grown is transgenic Bt varieties. Insects will be collected weekly, if possible, and shipped to the Southern Insect Management Research Unit for assay.
