Research Project: DEVELOPMENT OF CRAPE MYRTLE GERMPLASM WITH RESISTANCE TO FLEA BEETLE AND CRAPE MYRTLE APHID

Objective:
To screen crape myrtle germplasm for host plant resistance to the metallic flea beetle and the crape myrtle aphid. Emphasis will be placed on maintaining germplasm through specific watering regimes and other horticultural necessities.

Approach:
Crape myrtle clones will be placed at the cooperator's location and will be screened for metallic flea beetles and crape myrtle aphids. Counts will be made by the cooperator and by ARS scientists throughout the season each year. Clones with host plant resistance will be tested further in subsequent experiments.
