SENATOR COLLINS PRAISES DHS ASST. SEC. STEWART VERDERY

Washington, DC - Following the announcement that Steward Verdery is resigning as the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Assistant Secretary for Border and Transportation Security Policy and Planning, Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) released the following statement. Senator Collins is the Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction over DHS.

The following is Senator Collins' statement:

"I was able to work closely with Secretary Verdery during his time at DHS and would like to thank him for his counsel, hard work ethic, and dedication to public service. His efforts to implement US-VISIT will go far in helping to secure our country's borders. Under his watch, DHS was able to meet its major goal of implementing the US-VISIT entry-exit system at the 50 busiest land ports of entry by the end of last year.

"I wish Stewart the best of luck in his future endeavors."
