Valley Forge National Historical Park
Things To Do

The fall is here and there are lots of things to do at the park! Here are several fun and educational activities we are offering this fall. All of them are great for adults and kids. Be sure to see our fall guide for all of the programs being offered.

Cell Phone Tours

Valley Forge National Historical Park has pioneered a new and unique way to tour the grounds. Whether you are driving, biking, or walking, you simply use your personal cell phone to call a number and listen to a short narration of historical information. By dialing different prompts you can learn about individual sites and monuments throughout the park.

Now where ever you are exploring the Park, history is simply a phone call away!  The general phone number is 484.396.1018. También disponible en español en 484.396.1015.

There is no cost associated with the calls other than the minutes you have allotted for your phone plan. For more information about the cell phone tours or to pick up an information card please stop by the Welcome Center.

Story Telling Benches

Valley Forge is pleased to once again host the Once Upon a Nation Storytelling Benches though out the Park. The storytellers are guaranteed to educate and entertain. You can find them at the Welcome Center, National Memorial Arch, Washington’s Headquarters and the new location at Varnum’s Quarters located on Rt. 23. Storytellers share riveting stories of the Valley Forge Army encampment, and how it became a turning point in the Revolutionary War. Short, five-minute stories are told to anyone who comes to visit one of the signature 13 foot Once Upon A Nation Benches. Storytelling benches are staffed 10:30 am - 4:30pm on weekends September 6th - October 26th.

Trolley Tours

If you would rather leave the driving to us, hop on the Encampment Store’s old-fashioned trolley and experience the story of Valley Forge in a new way. Once Upon A Nation Storytellers bring history to life right where it all happened. The 90-minute tour will run on the weekends September 6th – October 26th at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. Fee charged, tickets can be purchased in the Encampment Store. For more information or reservations, please call 610.783.1074.

After Hours Tours

Back by popular demand this summer, Valley Forge will be hosting the After Hours Tours performed by Once Upon A Nation. Last year tickets rapidly sold out for this unique experience. Visitors start with a picnic dinner, then take a special tour of Washington’s Headquarters and conclude by listening to encampment tales around a group campfire. The program runs Saturday evenings from 5pm to 8:30pm September 6 - October 25. Group reservations are available for 20 people or more Friday evenings only. All tours are weather permitting and a fee is charged. For more information or to make reservations visit www.onceuponanation.org.

Gallery Talks

Make sure to take advantage of one of our a gallery talks. You can wiggle your way into 18th century clothing, touch and learn about artifacts discovered in a recent archeological dig, or think kind thoughts about your own physician’s medical training as you hear about medical practices during the encampment. Talks take place at the Welcome Center gallery Monday through Friday at 2:00 pm.

Vault Tours

Are you interested in real artifacts from the Revolutionary War? Do you spend time with your nose pressed against the museum display cases in the Welcome Center? If this sounds like you or any of your family and friends, then the Behind the Scenes Vault tour is right up your alley. This opportunity allows you to see and hear about the artifacts and original documents which rarely go on exhibit. Vault tours are held the 1st Saturday of each month starting by reservations only. Special arrangements can be made for groups. Tours are limited to eight people. For more information and to reserve your spot please call 610.783.1020.
