Note:  Denominators for computing rates for years 1992-1999 were obtained from Quarterly Estimates of the United States Foreign-born and Native Resident Populations: April 1, 1990, to July 1, 1999.  Denominators for computing the 2000 rates based on April 2000 U.S. Census; denominators for 2001 and 2002 based on extrapolation from the Current Population Survey March 2002 to the July 1 total population estimates.
