We all can be good stewards of Miller and Walker Creeks! Whether you live right next to the streams or a mile away, your actions can help improve water quality and reduce stormwater. This, in turn, will help our region's efforts to improve Puget Sound.

Volunteers Needed for Stewardship Projects

Watershed residents can help improve the streams for people and fish every Saturday in October.

Next up is the Stewards of the Cove working on Saturday, October 11, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Monitoring Coordination Workshops

Watershed citizens have been invited to participate in a series of three workshops this fall to discuss how we monitor the ecological health of the Miller/Walker Creek basins.

Workshop #1 occurred on September 24.  The draft summary of Workshop #1 is now available (MS Word file).  Anyone may provide additional input -- answers to the questions in the table beginning on page 3 -- by submitting them to the Basin Steward Dennis Clark by Wednesday, October 8.   View agenda and background materials from Workshop #1.

Workshop #2 will occur Wednesday, October 29, 7 - 9 p.m., at Normandy Park City Hall, 801 S.W. 174th St., Normandy Park.

Stewardship Resources for Watershed Residents

This Web site provides resources to help watershed residents be good stewards:

Why Good Stewardship Matters
Whether you live near or far from Miller and Walker Creeks, good stewardship of our land and water carries multiple benefits:

  • Healthier home and yard for children and pets
  • Cleaner water in our streams and at Puget Sound beaches
  • Less flooding and erosion
  • Healthy urban forests and green spaces

Basin Steward Available to Help Photo showing volunteers planting trees along Miller Creek in Burien in October 2007
Contact basin steward Dennis Clark, 206-296-1909, if you want to:

  • Volunteer to help plant trees and control invasive weeds
  • Improve your streamside property with natural yard care and use of native plants
  • Arrange a presentation for your school, community group, or faith community
  • Report fish sightings or non-emergency problems with the creeks

Establishing a basin steward to be a single point of contact for activities and information related to the basin was recommended in the Miller and Walker Creeks Basin Plan.

Stewardship of the Miller/Walker Creeks basin is jointly funded by the City of Burien, City of Normandy Park, City of SeaTac, King County, and the Port of Seattle. On behalf of the partners, this page is proudly hosted by King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks - Water and Land Resources Division.
