Research Project: FUNGICIDE MANAGEMENT FOR SOYBEAN RUST

Location: Soybean/maize Germplasm, Pathology, and Genetics Research

Project Number: 3611-22000-016-27
Project Type: Specific Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jul 12, 2006
End Date: Feb 28, 2007

Objective:
Objective is to use different apertures across pressures with minimal change in carrier volume change drop size to evaluate the effect of drop size on canopy penetration. Apertures and pressures are selected to provide drop sizes from very fine to very coarse. Applications will occur after first flower (R1-R2) with a second application 20-27 days later when the canopy has closed. Quadris with COC (1%) will be used. Exact configurations by treatment are to be determined. Experimental design: Split plot with pressure as the main effect and nozzle by aperture randomized within as sub plots. Each location will have 4 Reps. Plot sizes will be 50¿ X 30¿ in 30 inch rows. A drive path (10¿) will be included between reps. Vision Pink Dye (GarrCo Products, Inc.) will be added to the tank at the rate of 96 fl oz/100 gallons. Cards will be placed mid canopy, in center of the row. All cards will be held horizontal using a stationary tray. Place 3 cards across width of the boom in three locations within the plot for a total of 9 cards per plot at the minimum.

Approach:
Compare single and dual aperture nozzles keeping drop sizes and pressures uniform. Aperture sizes and pressures are limited to allow direct comparison of the single and paired tip nozzles. Applications are planned after first flower (R1-R2) with a second application 20-27 days later when the canopy has closed. Product: Quadris with COC 1% Specific treatments will be determined. Experimental design: RCB with. 4 Reps, Boom height 18-20 inches above canopy. Plot sizes 50¿ X 10¿, 30 inch rows. Include a drive path (10¿) between pairs of plots.
