Volunteers needed to help King County animal shelters with off-site adoption activities for shelter pets

King County Animal Care and Control is seeking volunteers to assist with adoptions at off-site locations for shelter pets. Several local pet supply stores are working in partnership with King County on this off-site adoption program. King County is recruiting volunteers to assist with transporting and caring for animals to be adopted at these sites.

A training session for people interested in providing help with the off-site adoption program will be held on Saturday, December 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the King County Kent Animal Shelter, located at 21615 64th Avenue South. Once the training is completed, volunteers may begin helping at off-site locations right away.

"This program is a great opportunity for animal lovers to give the gift of adoption to the homeless pets in our shelters. We have successfully adopted nearly 700 dogs and cats through our off-site adoption program this year," said Al Dams, Acting Manager for King County Animal Care and Control. "Our off-site adoption program volunteers are essential as King County animal care employees simply could not do this program without them. This program provides an opportunity for animal lovers to save lives of shelter animals and make sure they are placed in loving homes."

King County Animal Care and Control off-site adoption program volunteers must be able to safely handle dogs and cats, clean pet cages, and work well with the public. It is additionally helpful if off-site adoption volunteers have the ability to transport animals. Off-site adoption volunteers must be 18 years of age or collaborating with a parent or guardian.

Residents can receive more information about this program or other volunteer opportunities, or register for the training by emailing pets@metrokc.gov
