Abstract

Howard N. Fullerton (1997) "Evaluating the 1995 BLS Labor Force Projections," Proceedings of the Section on Survey Research Methods, American Statistical Association.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has made labor force projections since the late 1950's. They have generally been from a 10 to 20 time span. These projections by age and sex, since the late 1970's, by race, and since the late 1980's, by Hispanic origin. Beginning in 1968, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has not considered the projection process complete until it assesses the accuracy of its predictions (Swerdloff, 1969) Such evaluations help the developers of the projections to better understand the causes of projection errors and to provided users with information on accuracy of specific components of the projections
