This is a short overview of the course, more information about this course is available here.

Supported by a CDC grant, this course was developed by the National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers in collaboration with the AIDS Education Training Centers (AETC) and the AETC National Resource Center. This course is designed for clinical providers who care for HIV+ patients and is based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the National Institutes of Health, and the HIV Medicine Association of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. The course can be provided in a modular format, or as a single day training.

This Cases on the Web activity from the International AIDS Society-USA introduces a case about an HIV-infected man with possible sexually transmitted disease coinfection and presents 5 clinical decision points, each focusing on a case-management objective. At each decision point, learners should select the option that they believe is most sound and then read the presenter’s explanation of that option. Choosing the best option leads to an extended discussion of the medical evidence and practice considerations related to the case-management objective. Free CME is available.

An Update and Review of the Diagnosis and Management of Syphilis

The Region II PTC has developed a Syphilis CME Module which is now available to clinical providers. The module is a source of clinical guidance and includes the natural history of syphilis and key steps in the diagnosis and management of syphilis. Hepatitis Web Study

Seattle STD/HIV PTC The Seattle STD/HIV Prevention Training Center and the University of Washington are pleased to present the Hepatitis Web Study, a free online education web site for health care workers who provide clinical care to persons with viral hepatitis. The service offers interactive, case-based modules dealing with the diagnosis and management of hepatitis A, B, C, and other hepatitis viruses. Each module includes case studies, discussion points, high-quality illustrations/graphics, references, and resource links. Free continuing education credit is provided.

STD Case Series

National Network of STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers (NNPTC) The NNPTC Online STD Case Series is designed to provide continuing education for practitioners in primary health care, family medicine, emergency medicine and other specialties who provide care to persons with or at risk for sexually transmitted diseases. The first two cases in this series are now available online at www.STDCases.org. Five more cases will be added in 2004. Complete the cases and receive free Continuing Education Credits.

Chlamydia Case-based Training

Sexually Transmitted Chlamydial Infections - A Primary Care Clinician's Guide to Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention.

California STD/HIV PTC This CME course is for practicing clinicians who care for women of reproductive age, including adolescents. The training is designed to increase knowledge of asymptomatic Chlamydia infection and the importance of screening young sexually active women. In addition, management of Chlamydia-infected patients and their partners is covered. Introduction to STDs: A Distance Learning Course

Cincinnati STD/HIV PTC This distance learning course consists of 17.5 hours of didactic independent study and 16 hours of experiential practicum. The eleven training modules covering all of the basic STDs are available via the internet, CD-Rom and VHS tapes. CME is available. It is available at www.stdptc.uc.edu or 1-800-459-2820.

STD Clinical Intensive CME Module

The Sylvie Ratelle STD/HIV Prevention Training Center of New England. This self-study course is divided into 8 sections covering history and physical examination, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes simplex virus infections, human papillomavirus infections, syndromic approach to STDs, and viral hepatitis. Online Course: "Covering the Bases, Adolescent Sexual Health."

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has developed an online educational module titled "Covering the Bases, Adolescent Sexual Health." This module was designed to help health care providers and public health professionals with prevention counseling, risk assessment, and STD and HIV testing in the adolescent population. The Seattle and Birmingham STD/HIV Prevention Training Centers are pleased to present the male and female exam DVD/videotapes. This tool is divided into two parts; part one demonstrates the physical examination technique in a step-by-step manner; part two addresses the clinician/patient interaction. Both manual dexterity and effective communication skills that are required for a complete physical examination for STDs are demonstrated throughout. These programs are an ideal training tool for updating clinicians currently working with STD patients, as well as for orienting new staff.

The STD Prevention Edition of CDCynergy

The STD Prevention Edition of CDCynergy is an interactive CD-ROM-based health communication planning model that provides practical, step-by-step assistance to public health professionals in designing effective health communication plans. Instead of assuming communication is the answer to every health problem, CDCynergy guides the user through a process of examining the causes of the problem and possible interventions. Only after understanding the role communication will play in the selected intervention does CDCynergy then guide the user through the process of learning about the target audiences and how to best communicate with them. This exciting new product includes nine ready-to-use STD presentations, a user's guide with suggested agendas, discussion questions, and a script for an interactive group exercise (with a demonstration animation). STD 101 In-A-Box may be used by state/local health departments, health educators, conference organizers, trainers, clinicians, or anyone needing to conduct a basic presentation on sexually transmitted disease prevention. Prevention and Management of STDs in Men Who Have Sex with Men: A Toolkit for Clinicians

Prompted by increases in infectious syphilis and gonorrhea among men who have sex with men (MSM), the Division of STD Prevention at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH), in collaboration with Fenway Community Health, has developed a toolkit to help physicians prevent sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in that population.
