The Global Health Council is pleased to again offer an expansion of its D.C.-based Policy Series events to annual conference attendees. These sessions are designed to prompt learning and discussion around key issues in the areas of advocacy, research and outreach within the context of bringing about sound policy changes in global health. 9 am-Noon PS3: Research Symposium: Using Research to Strengthen Health Systems and Meet the Needs of Communities
The Research Symposium highlights the important partnership between researchers and the community in developing and sustaining health systems. Through presentations and breakout group discussions, we will focus on capacity building, appropriate technology, and ethical considerations of research in communities, as we identify the challenges and potential solutions to making research an integral part of programs and practices.

8:30-10:30 am PS5: Next Steps for the Lantos-Hyde US Leadership Act Against HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria
The re-authorization of the U.S. Leadership Act Against HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria has produced bills in Congress that would significantly increase funding for global health programs across the three diseases and further operationalizes U.S.-funded malaria and TB programs. 2:30-4:30 pm PS6: Legislative Landscapes
2008 marks the end of the current Administration and the end of another session in Congress. A number of key members of Congress are set to retire. This year’s legislative session will focus on how the upcoming changes in the Congress and the Administration in view of the upcoming congressional and presidential elections impact global health issues. Invited Committee staff will talk about potential changes and trends on the horizon.
