Celebrate

Join us on Thursday May 29, 2008 for this exciting annual event where we commemorate the accomplishments of the global health community! A special reception in the Exhibit Hall is a prelude to a truly unforgettable Awards Banquet that includes a sumptuous meal, a program that inspires, and entertainment that lifts the spirit. Last year featured the magnificent splendor of the Salinas Dancers, a traditional family troupe Aztec Dancers from Mexico City. Hosted by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent for the health and medical unit at CNN, this was a wonderful experience for all!

Honor

The evening centers around four awards that honor extraordinary individuals and organizations that have made remarkable contributions to improve the health and well-being of the world’s poor. The Best Practices in Global Health Award, the Excellence in Media Award for Global Health, the Jonathan Mann Award for Health and Human Rights and the Gates Award for Global Health are all presented during the banquet.

The Gates Award for Global Health, which honors an organization that has made a major and lasting contribution to the field, is the highlight of the evening. The award, which carries with it a $1 million honorarium, was presented in 2007 by Dr. Tachi Yamada, executive director of the global health program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
