Founded in 1961, the Academy for Educational Development is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to solving critical social problems and building the capacity of individuals, communities, and institutions to become more self-sufficient. AED works in all the major areas of human development, with a focus on improving education, health, and economic opportunities for the least advantaged in the United States and developing countries throughout the world. The Communication for Child Survival (HEALTHCOM) project is a program of the U.S. Agency for International Development, under contract to the Academy for Educational Development. The project provides technical assistance to Agency for International Development (AID) Missions and developing countries in mass media, social marketing, training, and print materials. HEALTHCOM works in up to 17 countries where there will be resident advisors and long-term projects in child health including oral rehydration, growth monitoring, improved nutrition, immunization, and birth spacing. Services of HEALTHCOM may be obtained through the AID Office of Health and Office of Education, Bureau for Science and Technology, Agency for International Development. http://www.child-survival.org/
