Poster for 64th Annual Duck Calling Contest |
World Championship Duck Calling Contest
This event, held in conjunction with the Wings Over
the Prairie Festival during Thanksgiving week, attracts thousands
of sportsmen to Stuttgart, Arkansas. More than 60,000 people attend
the festival, which is the oldest in the state. The first duck
calling contest, held in 1936, had 17 contestants, and the first
prize was a hunting coat valued at $6.60. Today the contest is held
in six divisions, including junior, intermediate, and women; and
the prize package is worth more than $15,000. Other highlights of
the festival include the Duck Gumbo Cook-off and the Sporting
Collectibles Show. The project includes six videotapes of the
different contest divisions; descriptive text; an official program,
newspaper supplement, and poster from the 1999 festival; other
promotional materials; and a number of memorabilia, including a
trophy and a camouflage hat with an official logo.
