The AAS is the largest society of its kind in the world. It is a scholarly, non-political, non-profit professional association open to all persons interested in Asia. It seeks through publications, meetings, and seminars to facilitate contact and an exchange of information among scholars to increase their understanding of East, South, and Southeast Asia. Its members include scholars, business people, diplomats, and journalists.

The Association for Japanese Literary Studies has an annual meeting and publishes a newsletter and proceedings. Paper topics include the relationship between Japanese literature and poetics, theatricality and performance, revisionism, historicism and more.

H-Japan (History of Japan) is a member of H Net Humanities & Social Sciences OnLine. H Japan is an international, nonpartisan electronic discussion group sponsored by H Net, Humanities On Line and the Kansai Institute of Asia Pacific Studies (KIAPS) of Osaka University of Foreign Studies. The site includes recent messages, recent reviews, electronic journals, resources, and a discussion group that is a moderated bilingual forum for scholarly discussion of Japanese history, culture, religion, and society, including contemporary political, diplomatic, security, and economic issues.

International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS)  (http://www.iias.nl/)
The International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) is a postdoctoral research center based in Leiden and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Its main objective is to encourage the study of Asia and to promote national and international cooperation in this field. IIAS covers the geographical areas of South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Central Asia. The Institute focuses on the humanities and the social sciences and, where relevant, on their interaction with other sciences.

JPRI is a think tank that brings a variety of critical academic voices to the U.S.-Japan relations policy debate through conferences, public lectures, and research.
