This site recommends classroom materials, lesson plans, and faculty guides on Asia for educators. Materials can be viewed by subject areas, type (including central themes, maps, primary sources, and statistics), and by time period. It also features units on Asian culture and history.

The AsiaExperts database gives information on specialists in Asian culture, arts, history, and society. Profiles list individual's areas of expertise, publications, contact information, and more.

Asian Educational Media Service (AEMS)  (http://www.aems.uiuc.edu/index.las)
AEMS is a program of the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. AEMS helps educators find and use media materials for teaching about the cultures and peoples of Asia.

International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS)  (http://www.iias.nl/)
The International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) is a postdoctoral research center based in Leiden and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Its main objective is to encourage the study of Asia and to promote national and international cooperation in this field. IIAS covers the geographical areas of South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and Central Asia. The Institute focuses on the humanities and the social sciences and, where relevant, on their interaction with other sciences.

Founded in 1958, ISEI is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The National Clearinghouse for U.S.-Japan Studies at Indiana University specializes in providing educational information about Japan to K-12 students, teachers, specialists, and curriculum developers.

On The Record, Media Directory of Japan Specialists  (http://www.us-japan.org/otr/otrnav.html)
A Database of Japan Specialists compiled by CULCON (The US-Japan Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange), part of the Japan-US Friendship Commission. It was designed to provide the media with access to information about the US-Japan relationship through experts. You can browse the database by specialization (including art history, media, business, education, language, history, law, politics, religion, and science and technology) or by alphabetical listing, geographical location, affiliations, and interview languages.

This newsletter provides concise information in English on key people, important literature and recent developments in four fields of social science research on Japan: economics, political science, law and, to a limited extent, sociology. Social Science Japan is published by the Information Center for Studies in Japanese Society, which was established in 1996 within the Institute of Social Science (ISS), University of Tokyo. The articles are primarily written by ISS research staff and other researchers connected with the Institute. Social Science Japan is published three times annually. It is available in a paper edition sent by airmail or can be downloaded from the website.

Established in 1998, the Study Abroad Asia WWW VL is a part of the Asian Studies WWW Virtual Library Project and of the South Asia WWW Virtual Library. WorldWide Classroom is one of the largest consortia of schools around the world that welcome international students, with information about 10,000 schools in 109 countries. The Japan pages include information on all types of schools, from elementary to university, vocational, and executive. The site also includes information on safety tips, weather conditions, travel guides, insurance, and culture shock.
