Description
The Home Safety Council (HSC) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing home related injuries that result in nearly 20,000 deaths and 21 million medical visits on average each year. Through national programs, partnerships and the support of volunteers, HSC educates people of all ages to be safer in and around their homes. HSC programs include (1) CodeRedRover.org, an interactive home safety Web site that offers games, activities, do-it-yourself projects, home safety checklists and tips for parents and kids all in the name of saving lives and (2) Great Safety Adventure, a traveling exhibit that teaches basic home safety skills to help children, families, and communities learn about home safety risk areas.
Print Resources
The Council offers easy home safety education materials through the Home Safety Literacy Project, which provides an alternative to text-heavy public safety handouts. Designed for those adults who read at lower levels and who are learning to speak English, the first phase of the project introduced highly illustrated fire safety teaching tools. The second phase combines home fire safety education with disaster preparedness training.
