AGING PROGRAM
New: Request for Proposal
announced for senior services.
The primary responsibility for Aging Services throughout
King County rests with the federally designated Area
Agency on Aging. AAA (external)
is administered by the City of Seattle through
an inter-local agreement with King County and United
Way of King County.
King County's own Aging Program coordinates with the
programs and services offered through ADS and United
Way of King County. The goal for using County funds
is to complement existing services and programs. The
result is that more than 25 programs, primarily in Senior
Centers and Adult Day Health centers, receive funding.
Many of the programs serve residents of unincorporated
areas in the county.
Services offered at Adult Day Health Programs can include:
- Assessment for cognitive and physical functioning
- Physical assistance with mobility, eating, medical
reatments, personal hygiene/grooming, and toileting
- Case Management on a limited basis
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Physical therapy
- Exercise classes to improve balance, flexibility,
strength, and endurance
- Respite for Family and caregivers
- Health promotion education and self-management
training for chronic diseases
- Immunizations
- Health screenings
- Social Support
- Transportation Services
Services offered at Senior Centers can include:
- Exercise Classes to improve balance, flexibility,

- Legal clinics for issues such as consumer fraud
prevention

- Aging
and Disability Services (external) is the
Area Agency on Aging for King County, and is a division
of the City of Seattle’s Human Services Department.
The City of Seattle, King County, and United Way serve
as the sponsors and policy setting board for the Agency.

- Healthy Aging
Partnership (extermal) - The King County Aging program
is a member of the Healthy Aging Partnership (HAP)
which is a coalition of Puget Sound-area health and
social service agencies. HAP's goal is to support
the efforts of seniors in King and adjacent counties
to improve their health and quality of life through
the dissemination of, and easy access to, health and\social
service information.
