Supreme Court Decision in Apartheid Litigation (Taken Question)

Question: What information do we have about the Supreme Court’s recent decision, affirming a U.S. appeals court ruling, which cleared the way for lawsuits filed by apartheid victims seeking damages from more than 50 major corporations to go forward? How will this affect U.S.-South African bilateral relations?

Answer: We do not comment on ongoing litigation. As a procedural matter, since the Supreme Court is not reviewing the decision of the court of appeals, the case will be remanded to the district court for further consideration in accordance with the order of the court of appeals. Further questions can be directed to the Department of Justice press office.
