| Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC May 16, 2008 Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate Policy and Implementation Committee MeetingSenior Climate Negotiator and Special Representative Dr. Harlan L. Watson will lead the U.S. delegation to a Policy and Implementation Committee meeting of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate May 19-20 in Seattle, Washington. The Asia-Pacific Partnership is a voluntary public-private partnership among seven major Asia-Pacific nations to accelerate the development and deployment of cleaner, more efficient technologies to meet national pollution reduction, energy security and climate change concerns in ways that promote economic development and reduce poverty.
Meeting participants will review progress and discuss next steps on cooperative activities involving the deployment of clean technology in eight key areas: cleaner fossil energy, renewable energy and distributed generation, power generation and transmission, steel, aluminum, cement, coal mining, and buildings and appliances. Asia-Pacific Partnership countries are: Australia, Canada, China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea, and the United States. Together, these countries account for more than half of the world’s population, economy, and energy use.
