Research Project:
NOVEL CHEMICAL AND ANALYTICAL APPROACHES TO ODOR CONTROL FOR WASTE TREATMENT SYSTEMS
Location: Environmental Management and Byproduct Utilization Laboratory
Project Number: 1265-12220-004-03
Project Type:
Specific C/A
Start Date: Jun 01, 2003
End Date: May 31, 2008
Objective:
Develop new technologies to measure volatile odorous gases for use in emissions measurements, in-line chemical monitoring, and evaluation of odor control technologies.
Approach:
This project will build on existing research project developed while Dr. Kim was a USDA Headquarters post-doc. Through our combined efforts, we will build and carry out research in three major areas: development of solid-phase microextraction as an odor measurement technology, laboratory batch reactor studies of fundamental chemical processes controlling odors, and field scale studies to determine the odor character of various agriculturally-related waste streams with and without odor control technologies in place.
