Objective:
To obtain germplasm of black walnut for conservation in the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System and use in crop development programs.
Approach:
Wild populations of walnut (Juglans olanchana and J. steyermarkii) native to northern Guatemala will be located. Germplasm will be collected in the form of seed and will be documented with locality, latitude and longitude, plant description, and growing environment. Herbarium voucher specimens will be made as appropriate. Samples of germplasm and associated documentation will be provided to the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System.
