Death of Muhammad al-Maghut

The United States notes with sadness the death on April 3 of the great Syrian poet, playwright and intellectual Muhammad al-Maghut. Al-Maghut was a true original, an uncompromising intellectual and independent voice for freedom and justice in the Arab world. His work and his life were a testimony to the power of the individual and to the creative spirit. We offer our sincere condolences to his family and many admirers.
