Research Project: TO TAKE WEEKLY LATE BLIGHT READINGS IN THE NATIONAL LATE BLIGHT TRAIL PLOTS

Location: Genetic Improvement of Fruits and Vegetables

Project Number: 1275-21000-176-08
Project Type: Grant

Start Date: Mar 29, 2006
End Date: Oct 01, 2006

Objective:
The contractor has the scientific expertise for evaluating phytophthora infestan existence at the university and will make readings in the National Late Blight Trial on a weekly basis during the 2006 growing season on a percent infected basis. This necessity to have more frequent observations on the rate and progression of the late blight development for the germplasm development effort.

Approach:
The overall program objectives are the development of potato germplasm with increased disease and insect resistance, and improved processing and/or fresh market capabilities for eventual release as a new variety. Specifically, this acquisition is to obtain information on the rate and progression of late blight development under natural field conditions in East Lansing, Michigan, as part of the National Late Blight Trials.
