Research Project:
GERMPLASM ENHANCEMENT, TESTING, AND HYGIENIC SEED MULTIPLICATION OF POTATO FOR THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST
Location: Vegetable and Forage Crops Research Laboratory
Project Number: 5354-21000-013-03
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jun 09, 2006
End Date: May 31, 2011
Objective:
Identify improved potato cultivars with increased disease and pest resistance and quality attributes.
Approach:
Select in greenhouse and field, clones which display resistance to insect, nematode, and pathogen pressure and enhanced quality and nutritional qualities. Advanced Oregon potato selections wil be grown at Hermiston Agric. Res & Ext Ctr fields continually cropped to potatoes and known to be highly infested with soilborne diseases including common scab, Vertidillium wilt, and containing high populations of root knot nematodes. Ability to maintain high yield when exposed to PVX, PVY, and PLRV will be selected. Clones performing well will be retained and exposed to more rigid tests pending naming and release. Healthy planting stocks will be maintained by virus indexing and field rouging for all advanced breeding lines at the Central Oregon Agric. Res Ctr, Madras, OR. Replacing 5354-21000-011-006S, 58-5354-1-406 (5/06). Congressionally mandated, part of the Tri-State variety development program. Documents SCA w/Oregon State Univ, Corvallis, OR. Formerly 5354-21000-011-09S (August 2006).
