Research Project:
DEVELOPMENT AND UTILIZATION OF GEM-BASED AMYLOMAIZE HYBRIDS AND THE IDENTIFICATION OF HIGH AMYLOSE MODIFYING GENES THROUGH QTL ANALYSIS
Location: North Central Regional Plant Introduction Station, Ames, Iowa
Project Number: 3625-21000-050-06
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Jun 27, 2005
End Date: May 31, 2009
Objective:
Develop GEM lines with 70% amylose, identify the quantitative trait loci (QTL's) for high amylose modifiers genes, and to continue development of double mutant high amylose lines as candidates for resistant starch.
Approach:
GEM lines converted to high amylose starch will be used as donors to convert new high yielding GEM lines to 70% amylose. Yield trials will be conducted with the best GEM x GEM lines that were converted to high amylose. Develop a set of 100 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers for mapping QTL's in 300 F2 segregating progeny to identify QTL's for high amylose.
