Research Project: A LITTLE HELP FROM THE WILD: EXPLOITING WILD RELATIVES OF CHICKPEA FOR RESISTANCE TO HELICOVERPA AND SPODOPTERA POD BORERS

Location: Plant Germplasm Introduction and Testing

Project Number: 5348-21000-026-02
Project Type: Trust

Start Date: Jan 01, 2004
End Date: Apr 30, 2008

Objective:
Identify accessions of wild relatives of chickpea with diverse mechanisms of resistance to pod borers. Identify parents for developing molecular mapping population for resistance to pod borers, and introgression of resistance genes into locally adapted cultivars.

Approach:
Evaluate the accessions belonging to annuals species as C. judaicum (18), C. pinnatifidium (8), C. bijugum (16), C. reticulatum (13), C. chorassicum (1), and C. echinospermum (5) along with resistant and susceptible checks (5) of cultivated chickpea for resistance to H. armigera at ICRISAT. Documents Reimbursable with ICRISAT. Log 25849. Formerly 5348-21000-021-04T. (5/08)
