Research Project: BIOLOGICAL SEQUENCING ACTIVITIES AT THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND AGRICULTURAL INSTITUTE Project Number: 0210-22310-002-62
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Sep 02, 2003
End Date: Sep 03, 2007

Objective:
Evaluate pathogenic repository located at the Scientific Research and Agricultural Institute (SRAI). This is an extension of an existing ARS partner project with Kazakhstan in which the Former Soviet Union weapons scientists are engaged in peaceful research activities.

Approach:
SRAI has an extensive collection of both plant and animal pathogens remaining from previous work conducted under the auspices of the USSR Biological Program. In conjunction with the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) and in cooperation with ARS scientists located at Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC), existing collections of microorganisms will be characterized via DNA sequence analyses.
