2007 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To produce a tetraploid seedling generation in support of varietal development.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
True seeds originating from hypernization from Beltsville program will be sent to Island Falls facility for production.
3.Progress Report
This report serves to document research conducted under a specific cooperative agreement between ARS and the University of Maine. Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent project 1275-21000-176-00D ‘Genetic Enhancement of Potatoes for Nutritional and Processing Quality and for Resistance to Diseases’. Approximately 20,000 seedling tubers were produced in support of the ARS Potato Breeding Program in Beltsville, MD. About half of these included tubers for varietal development, about 40% were bred for late blight resistance, and the remaining 10% were bred for a genetic study on the inheritance of resistance to common scab. This research provides the genetic material for each new cycle of the breeding program and for genetic studies. This research benefits potato breeders and growers by providing genetic materials from which new varieties will be selected.
Progress is being monitored by email and telephone.
