4d.Progress report.
This report serves to document activities and research carried out under a reimbursable agreement between ARS and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Under this agreement, ARS term employees were located in the USAID Washington, DC, headquarters and provided technical assistance in the areas of agricultural policy research and support, and agriculture biotechnology and biosafety, and technical services in agricultural sciences. Additionally, a number of research projects of joint interest to ARS and USAID were implemented with international cooperators and funded under the auspices of this agreement. They are titled:.
1)Biotechnology to Address Food Challenges in the Developing World (0210-22310-002-50G),.
2)An International Assessment of the Sources, Flows and Economic Consequences of Agricultural Germplasm (0210-22310-002-65G),.
3)Applied Genomics for Development of Anti Tick Vaccines in Eastern and Central Africa (0210-22310-002-71S), .
4)Crop Canopy Sensors for Efficient Nitrogen Management in the Indo-Gangetic Plains (0210-22310-002-75S). Progress reports for these projects are filed under their respective CRIS numbers shown parenthetically above. Other projects that have been undertaken or will be initiated in FY06 are; .
1)Assessment of East African Hybrid Maize Seed Expansion;.
2)Enabling Governance and Institutional Environments in Research for Agriculture in Developing Countries;.
3)support for GrainGenes website to expand UG99 stem rust information;.
4)support of post-doc position at ARS-Cereal Disease Laboratory, Minneapolis, MN, for identification of markers to UG99 stem rust resistance;.
5)and funding support for a study of vitamin A values of golden rice in a US population, in support of programs and activities managed by ARS-OIRP and ARS term appointment staff located at USAID.
