1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To implement the virtual EMBRAPA-ARS laboratory, known as LABEX, whereby agricultural problems of mutal interest to Brazil and the U.S. are solved through cooperative research activities.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Develop and transfer technology of value to ARS and EMBRAPA in the broad areas of plant and animal sciences, soil science, agriculture and other additional fields (genomics, genetic resoures, biobased products, food safety nannotechnology).
3.Progress Report
This report serves to document activities and research carried out under a trust fund agreement between ARS and the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, Embrapa. In FY2007 long term Labex positions in nanotechnology at WRRC, Albany CA, and in food safety at the ERRC, Wyndmoor, PA, came to an end. The third long term Labex position in genetic resources at the ARS National Center for Genetic Resources and Preservation in Ft. Collins, CO, is still active. Also, at the end of the fiscal year the Labex Coordinator returned to Brazil and a new Coordinator was installed. A permanent ARS-OIRP counterpart to the Labex Coordinator was also hired late in the fiscal year. A full length report containing information on all activities, projects, collaborations and publications is on file with ARS-OIRP highlighting the period of April 2004 to August 2007.
