Research Project:
EVALUATION OF THE LENTIL GERMPLASM COLLECTION FOR RESISTANCE TO PEA ENATION MOSAIC VIRUS
Location: Grain Legume Genetics Physiology Research
2006 Annual Report
4d.Progress report.
This is a specific cooperative agreement between ARS and Oregon State
University, Corvallis. Additional details of research can be found in
the report for the parent CRIS 5348-21000-014-00D, Germplasm
Enhancement, Genetics and Disease Management of Coool Season Food
Legumes. Under this project with Oregon State University we evaluated the USDA-ARS collection of lentil germplasm for resistance to Pea Enation Mosaic Virus at Corvallis, Oregon. Uniform and severe disease was present in the evaluation trial in all years from 2001 to 2005. A total of 2310 lentil accessions were evaluated in the five years and excellent resistance to the disease was identified. Accessions with the highest degree of resistance included PIs 606609 (France), 606691 (Bulgaria), 633926 (Russian Federation), 533691 (Spain), and 472525 (India), 299198 (Chile) and 577172 (Bulgaria). Several accessions from Iran, Turkey and Yugoslavia had low scores but in general were somewhat inferior to the above mentioned accessions. Approximately 500 accessions of the collection remain to be evaluated. Data has been made available as electronic files to the Regional Plant Introduction Station at Pullman for entry into GRIN.
