Research Project:
PLANT EXPLORATION IN UPPER MESOPOTAMIA, TURKEY TO COLLECT HERBACEOUS ORNAMENTAL GERMPLASM
Location: National Germplasm Resources
2007 Annual Report
1a.Objectives (from AD-416)
To obtain germplasm of herbaceous ornamenals for conservation in the U.S. National Plant Germplasm system and Harran University, and for use in crop development programs.
1b.Approach (from AD-416)
Populations of herbaceous ornamental plants native to turkey will be located. Germplasm will be collected and documented with locality, latitutde and longitude, plant description, and growing environment. Herbarium voucher specimens will be made as apprpropriate. Samples of germplasm, herbarium specimens, and associated documentation will be shared between Harran University and the U.S. National Plant Germplasm system.
3.Progress Report
This report serves to document research conducted under a grant from ARS to the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent project 1275-21000-170-00D: PLANT EXPLORATIONS TO ACQUIRE CROP GENETIC RESOURCES. Due to changes in the genera that are the priority of the Ornamental Plant Germplasm Center, this project was redirected towards collection of ornamental plant germplasm in the United States. Plans to collect ornamental germplasm in Turkey have been cancelled. Monitoring of the project was accomplished through emails and phone calls.
