Research Project: SCREENING OAT GERMPLASM FOR RESISTANCE TO KEY DISEASES

Location: Aberdeen, Idaho

2004 Annual Report

4.What were the most significant accomplishments this past year?
D. Progress Report This report serves to document research conducted under a Specific Cooperative agreement between ARS and Texas A & M University, College Station, TX. Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent CRIS 5366-21000-024-00D Barley and Oat Germplasm Evaluation and Enhancement.

Oat field plots were sown at Castroville, TX in the fall of 2003, including a mapping population, elite lines from the Aberdeen breeding program, and the partial resistance crown rust nursery. Due to unusually high rainfall and wind in the spring, most of the plots were lodged and consequently difficult to score in spite of good crown rust infection. Further plantings are planned for the fall of 2004.
