Research Project:
CIVIL PROTECTION AND GEOLOGICAL RISK MONITORING
2006 Annual Report
4d.Progress report.
This report serves to document activities conducted under a specific cooperative agreement between ARS and the Directorate of Civil Protection of the Regional Government of the Azores (RGA) under the Azores Cooperative Initiatives Program (ACIP). The RGA had identified two areas of interest for further development in the 2004 Shipboard Fire Training and Incident Command System, however, no action was taken to establish this training in two years. ARS and DOD POCs met with the RGA Project Manager in July 2006, and agreed on four areas of interest: . 1)AED acquisition and training of trainers;. 2)acquisition and use of fire fighting equipment in cooperation with the U.S. Airbase at Lajes;. 3)acquisition of tents for emergency shelter of displaced persons; and. 4)shipboard fire fighting as previously identified. Cooperation between Lajes and the Civil Protection Authority had been well established in the past, but seems to have diminished over the past few years. U.S. POCs would like to reestablish some of this cooperation as it has proven beneficial to both institutions.
