Research Project: ENHANCEMENT OF SOFT WHITE AND CLUB WHEAT FOR NORTHEAST OREGON

Location: Wheat Genetics, Quality Physiology and Disease Research

2003 Annual Report

4.What were the most significant accomplishments this past year?
The report serves to document research conducted under a specific cooperative agreement with Oregon State University. Additional details can be found in the report for the parent project 5348-21000-016-00D.

The goal of this research was to evaluate winter club breeding lines at diverse Oregon locations with the goal of developing high quality, competitive winter club cultivars suited to northeastern Oregon growing conditions. Seventeen breeding nurseries and 3 regional nurseries containing a total of 250 breeding lines and 430 early generation lines were evaluated at four Oregon sites and one southeastern Washington site for yield, test weight, plant height, heading date, and quality; crosses and seed increases were done in the greenhouse. Coleoptile length and leaf breadth measurements were taken. This project will result in adapted club wheat cultivars for northern Oregon and Southern Washington growing conditions.
