Clinical Laboratory & Radiology Services
The OMC's Clinical Laboratory and Radiology (X-ray) Services
provide laboratory tests, x-ray evaluations, vision and hearing
tests, and electrocardiograms which support the medical examinations
and medical surveillance at OMC. In addition, services are provided
on request to employees if ordered by the personal physician. There
is no cost to employees for these tests and evaluations, whether
they are provided for OMC purposes or for the personal physician.

Procedure Change for Occupational Medicine Clinic Lab Results
Effective March 30, 2004, the Occupational Medicine Clinic (OMC)
will be changing the way an employee receives his/her clinical
laboratory results for tests ordered by a personal physician. New
York State (NYS) law mandates that results be provided directly to
the ordering physician. While Brookhaven Lab is not subject to NYS
law, the clinical laboratory corporation that processes the specimen
is. Therefore, the OMC has to change the procedure whereby results
are given directly to an employee.
In addition, by changing this procedure, OMC will be able to bill
the employee's insurance provider directly for these tests. This
should help reduce the Laboratory's overhead expenses.
Please note the following:
- The OMC will continue to draw and collect specimens (blood,
urine, etc.) ordered for testing by your personal physician,
provided you bring the following information at the time of your
visit: * Prescription from your doctor identifying the ordering
physician, address and telephone number. * Insurance card
information, including policy holder's name, and employer.
- The OMC will not receive laboratory test results ordered by
your personal physician. The OMC will be considered the "drawing
station", the location that merely collects and prepares the
specimens. The OMC will retain a copy of the requisition form
and prescription on file for reference purposes only.
- If you want test results, you must contact the ordering
physician for information. The OMC will not have your results on
file.
- Your physician's office should receive your test results as
they would typically receive any laboratory results from Quest
Diagnostics.
- Quest Diagnostics will bill your insurance carrier for
services rendered. There should be no co-pay requirements for
collecting and processing the specimens.
The above information pertains only to clinical laboratory tests
ordered by personal physicians. For all clinical laboratory tests
performed in association with your employment at Brookhaven, test
results will continue to be received at the OMC and kept on file. If
you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the OMC at
Ext. 3670.
