Interim 508 Access Provision

What is the Interim 508 Access Provision?

The Interim 508 Access Provision allows "on request" access for files that cannot be made fully compliant by their posting deadline. Its use is reserved for documents that are extremely large/complicated or are determined by senior management in the official press release clearance process to be close hold and the lead time makes it impossible to make the files fully compliant at the time they are to be posted.

Use of the interim provision is not common, and will be determined by WCD on a case-by-case basis.

What should you do?

Contact your WCD liaison as soon as you know you will have a 508 compliance issue.

Provide the files, or a representative sample of the files, and discuss with WCD the problems with making the files compliant by deadline.

If the situation warrants, you will be allowed to provide "on request" access, and your liaison will work with you to establish a reasonable time frame to remediate any compliance issues.

What is "on request" access?

"On request" access requires that the file or link to the file provide contact information where persons with disabilities can gain alternate access to the information contained in the file (see example).
