Under Secretary Dobriansky Travels to Geneva to Attend World Health Organization’s Urgent Stakeholder Consultation on Global Polio Eradication

Under Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs, Paula Dobriansky will lead the U.S. delegation to Geneva, Switzerland, February 28, 2007, to attend an urgent consultation on global polio eradication hosted by the Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Under Secretary Dobriansky, Julie Gerberding, Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the Department of Health and Human Services, and Kent Hill, Assistant Administrator for Global Health at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will meet with representatives from the governments of polio endemic countries (Afghanistan, India, Nigeria, and Pakistan), Rotary International, WHO, the United Nations' Children's Fund, and other donor countries to establish a plan and benchmarks to overcome the remaining obstacles to eradicating polio worldwide.
