Sherburne NWR Plant List

Compilation of the Sherburne NWR plant list began with Dr. Moore, University of Minnesota, in the early 1970's. The task has been on-going with Refuge staff. All species on the list have been verified by botanists. Voucher specimens are archived at the Refuge headquarters and at the University of Minnesota Herbarium, J. F. Bell Museum of Natural History.

"A Synonymized Checklist of the Vascular Flora of the United States, Canada, and Greenland", John T. Kartesz, is used as the standard for nomenclature. Species on the list are recorded as annual (A), perennial (P), or biennial (B) ("TYPE" column).

The "Native" (Y="yes", N="no") column refers to whether a species is considered to be native to Sherburne NWR, and not necessarily to the State of Minnesota, or surrounding region.

Due to field size limits in our data base, species names and/or common names may be truncated in this check list when they are long. This will be corrected sometime in the future.

Plant photography is being taken by Refuge staff. Images of flower, leaf, plant and fruit are being taken for each species. When a species name is bolded, it is linked to a page displaying images that are currently available. There are no copy rights on these images as we want to make them available for you to use. They may be downloaded and reused at will.
