U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao Announces Launch of
E-News For Working Women Electronic Newsletter Enhances
Department’s Dialogue With Women in the Workforce

WASHINGTON – Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao announced today that the U.S. Department of Labor has launched an electronic newsletter to expand communications with women in the American workforce.

The newsletter continues the Secretary’s work to support working women’s expanding influence on the economy and public policy. The newsletter is posted on the Department’s Women’s Bureau Web site at www.dol.gov/dol/wb and new editions will also be distributed electronically by email. Individuals who wish to regularly receive the E-news should send an email with contact information to contact-wb@dol.gov to be added to the Department of Labor’s distribution list.

The first issue of E-news focuses on women and technology, sharing news from Women’s Bureau initiatives such as GEM-SET, a mentor program that matches young girls with successful women in science, engineering and technology careers. Other stories in the issue discuss the bureau’s online learning program and a virtual conferencing initiative that expands awareness about how technology can help women in their careers. Future E-news will cover specific issues and events that impact the everyday lives of working women.

“As Secretary of Labor, I see first hand that women workers are facing new realities in their lives,” Chao said. “These women are vital to our nation’s prosperity, and the Department of Labor will be a resource for working women to get advice, share concerns and improve their opportunities for success. The Women’s Bureau’s E-news is just one step we are taking to open an ongoing dialogue with working women in America.”
