Work Program Overview

The VETERANS INDUSTRIES program at the VAMC Martinsburg, WV is a vocational rehabilitation work therapy provider .The Vocational Rehabilitation Unit provides the following therapeutic treatment program for our nation’s veterans:

COMPENSATED WORK THERAPY (CWT) is an inclusive term for the programs of Veterans Industries.  At Martinsburg, the CWT program consists of transitional work experience.  In 2006, the program will expand to include Supported Employment (SE) and Transitional Residence (CWT/TR).

TRANSITIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE (TWE)  offers challenging vocational therapeutic experiences for veterans.  Veterans receive pay for services while participating in a realistic non-institutional working environment to further develop work tolerances, promote effective work habits and social skills. Veterans work in these programs for up to eight hours daily.

Referrals are accepted from hospital and community resources.  Placements are made both within local industry and in various departments within our medical center. Contracts are negotiated with private businesses.  Work experiences include customer service, landscaping, manufacturing / production, clerical / administrative, dietetic / food service, and custodial experiences.

Veterans Industries offer veterans the opportunity to be a part of an on-site workforce through our Compensated Work Therapy / Transitional Work Experience program. Contractors will gain additional workers without the cost of overhead associated with workmans compensation, vacation pay, sick leave, medical insurance or other additional costs. Work may be short-term or long term, which may result in employment for some of our veterans.
