Research Project: MOLECULAR IDENTIFICATION AND PHYLOGENETIC ANALYSES OF UNIQUE MICROORGANISMS FROM SWINE FECES AND MANURE STORAGE PITS

Location: Fermentation Biotechnology Research

2006 Annual Report

4d.Progress report.
This report serves to document research conducted under a specific cooperative agreement between ARS and the University of Oklahoma. Additional details of research can be found in the report for the parent CRIS 3620-63000-003-00D, Anaerobic Microbiological Processes in Animal Manure Management. Researchers had earlier developed methods for identifying and naming new bacterial genera and species based primarily on the 16S rDNA gene sequence database, as well as biochemical characteristics. This approach allows for identification of new and novel bacteria isolated from the swine gastrointestinal tract and stored swine manure. This year researchers have communicated information on new and novel bacterial genera and species at international meetings.
